As I understood it the major complaint about iBooks Author was that it unnecessarily tried to limit what you did with the “books” you produced using it (your first link). The original EULA referred [yes I have read it] to “All Works” and thus covered pdfs which could only be sold through the Apple market (which wasn’t going to sell pdfs) and anyway it was entirely up to Apple if they let you into the market.

The argument, made by some people, that “the software is free so shut up” was somewhat specious as you had to have a Mac to use the software. It just came across as an unpleasant “land grab” and the stupidity of it was shown by the rapid change to the EULA. The “walled garden” thesis is more debatable but is certainly supported by Apples rather smug “Education Event” to launch it.

As to: “Did they notice a decade ago that iTunes wasn’t created to manage music for all MP3 players on the market?” Well actually Soundjam (iTunes before it was bought and renamed) was designed for Diamond Rio audio players and was a fairly generic mp3 player.

App Store recent updates have made the process of discovery much better. You should try it and see what you think now.

About your “why anyone would buy an iPad is beyond me” comment, a good marketing department doesn’t make up for a crappy product. More than 15 million people (like me) bought it since it’s a pleasure to use, offers a much better experience reading/viewing/interacting than a computer does, and is shifting the use of a mobile computing device and making it more of an appliance.

Yes there are downsides and things I wish it did. No I wouldn’t buy an Android-based tablet since even I, a self-described geek, find them horrible to use in comparison. THAT is why “anyone would buy an iPad.”

Very poor functionality! I’m new to the iPhone so I was keen to buy a few apps for it but navigating the App store is a nightmare! I’m still not sure how you’re meant to search for specific apps.

Also… it’s obvious that Apple employ a very good marketing department, why anyone would buy an iPad is beyond me.

Are you aware of a site/link to download the manual for a Trutech PLV3119S1 LCD DVD PC Monitor? I am not able to use the Trutech as a monitor when connected to my laptop. Screen says no signal. Yes i used the function button to choose PC in.

I bought a trutech dvd for the car. Two screens. I’ve only owned it for 8 months and probably only had my kids use it for 14 or 15 times in that 8 months. Now it doesn’t work at all. It will not read the dvd’s, but will however play MP3 music…who gets this. I’m trying to find somewhere that I can contact to let trutech know what a horrible product this was and to let them know it no longer works after 8 months. I would like in return for trutech to send me a replacement unit. Do you think this may be possible.
Signed a mother of two kids riding in the back seat of a car long distances with no dvd players.
