A 10 minute podcast discussing my new toy: the Edirol R1, portable WAVE/MP3 Recorder/Player…a perfect device for mobile podcasting.
This is quite a nice, small, compact field recorder that I’m just beginning to understand. Not yet fully pleased with the results I’ve achieved, but the problem is not with the hammer…it’s the carpenter that needs more experience!
Still, I can sense the possibilities that a device of this quality and capability will bring to mobile field recording. Can’t wait to get better at using it and the results it’s sure to bring.

Connecting the Dots Podcast
Podcasting hit the mainstream in July of 2005 when Apple added podcast show support within iTunes. I'd seen this coming so started podcasting in May of 2005 and kept going until August of 2007. Thanks so much for an “in the field” review. I was wondering why you finally decided on the edirol over the Marantz. I am on the fence. Eric Rice’s recommendation of the archos just makes it more confusing. I need to record mobile (voice) podcasts, interviews, etc. as well as occasional live music, indoor and outdoor. Has your opinion of the edirol changed?

It did change. I returned it (much to my dismay). I posted about it if you care to read it…
